Brampton Library designated June Active Lifestyle month with a series of Community Spotlight presentations by volunteers from BikeBrampton. Peel Walk+Roll assisted by printing our poster displays for each of the 5 library branches we visited. We believe that biking in Brampton builds our community, so engaging library users is another great way to connect with residents! CeleBrampton BikeFest opens Main Street downtown for people to celebrate the start of summer in the city. Jun 11th marked BikeBrampton’s 4th annual participation, educating residents on cycling safety, encouraging them to come out to Bike Month events like Bike the Creek, Brampton’s new Community Rides, and our series of Brampton Library Community Spotlight presentations. BikeBrampton challenged Peel Environmental Youth Alliance’s Amazing Green Race students with the Bike Safety Intersection Game on May 21st at University of Toronto Mississauga. Environmental leaders of tomorrow sped through skill testing quizzes to advance to the next checkpoint via walking, cycling or taking transit. Ministry of Transportation Road Safety Challenge provided grant money for BikeBrampton to have the game the volunteers developed be produced. Bike to School Week in Brampton was a huge success. BikeBrampton member Lisa Stokes wrote of her experience at her child’s school May 25-29, 2015 and her followup on how many kids rode to school this week. “I worked with Walk+Roll Peel and the principal at my children’s school in northeast Brampton to encourage participation in Bike Week. The Cycling Culture workshop at PEYA EcoBuzz 2015 conference challenged teen environmental leaders to encourage students to cycle to school and around town. About 300 Peel Environmental Youth Alliance students gathered at Louise Arbour Secondary School on Oct 28, 2015 to participate in various “Sustainability in our Communities” workshops. They explored environmental issues to become inspired to begin student action projects in their schools.
