Brampton addresses Bicycle Lane Implementation

Brampton’s implementation of active transportation has been a success story. We need to continue on the path laid out by provincial sustainability guidelines and our City plans. AT supports our traffic movement (reduces congestion), economic benefit (shopping locally), health (active lifestyle, reducing risk of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, injury & premature death), and environmental benefits (lowers pollution, green house gases). This is a win-win for the livability of Brampton.

Summary of Brampton AT Staff Facts:

  • Brampton traffic demand experts forecast 150,000 additional peak morning car trips by 2051 when population exceeds 1 million, if we continue transportation patterns as usual.
  • If we adopt proposed Brampton Mobility Plan mode share targets, we can REDUCE not increase, those peak AM trips by 70,000.
  • Potential heath cost savings of over $20 million per year with these targets
  • Forecasted 50% reduction in fatality rates per year with these targets
