Etobicoke Creek Trail Link Official Opening Oct 11, 2016.

Partners Brampton, Caledon, Toronto and Region Conservation, Region of Peel & Ontario Municipal Cycling Infrastructure Program celebrate completion of trail link joining Brampton and Caledon. Join us 10:30-11:30am on trail at Mayfield Road underpass.

Last year Town of Caledon and City of Brampton worked with TRCA to submit applications to Ontario Municipal Cycling Infrastructure Program (OMCIP) for funds to help support construction of a new trail link on Etobicoke Creek trail.

This extension is from Mayfield Rd to the Hwy 410 overpass encompassing approximately 800m of new trail within Town of Caledon and 700m of new trail within City of Brampton boundaries.

Funding was provided by Town of Caledon, City of Brampton, Region of Peel and TRCA to support restoration enhancement work related to the trail project.

Earlier this summer TRCA initiated construction on behalf of both municipalities to construct this new trail link and installation of a new trailhead kiosk just north of the Hwy 410 overpass with TRCA staff wrapping up trail construction work by mid September.

Over the next couple of years, TRCA staff will be working with both municipalities to organize community based planting events along the new trail to help enhance riparian cover along the Etobicoke Creek, mitigate impacts of erosion, improve habitat connectivity within the valley lands and engage local residents in stewardship activities.

In June, this is what the Etobicoke Creek Trail looked like when Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry Kathryn McGarry and TRCA Director Chandra Sharma participated in Bike the Creek. The rutted farm track was a challenging cycle, especially if you had slick road tires!
